Welcome to the Department of History's inaugural e-newsletter! 

In it we recount another busy year for the department and for Catholic University.  Highlights ranged from the visit of Pope Francis to our campus, to the university's first-ever research day, showcasing the work of students and faculty.

Harold Langley, B.A. 1950

Harry Langley came to CUA after service in the Second World War. He recalls that he and his fellow G.I. Bill students, accustomed to leadership and organization, were “shocked at how unprepared the university was for the influx.”

Jacqueline Ryall, B.A. 1988

1988 history alumna Jacqueline Ryall has worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation since 2009. She advises the U.S. program, communications, and global advocacy teams. “Looking back, I am grateful for the education I received at Catholic.”

Farewell Ramon

If you were a student in the Department of History at any time since 2003, you will remember that the Department was “Solar” powered. That, of course, was affectionate wordplay with Ramon Sola’s email name, but it also nodded at the reality that Ramon was the force that kept it all together.
