A history major provides an excellent preparation for a variety of careers including business and government, media and information technology, law, museums and public history, and teaching (to learn more about the diversity of career paths taken by history majors, see our Career Outlook page by clicking here). The emphasis in all parts of the program on student participation through discussion in small groups, writing and critical analysis provides majors with skills that are highly transferable to other disciplines and employment.
Students interested in majoring in history apply to the program through the School of Arts and Sciences. The school is like a liberal arts college embedded within the broader university, offering programs in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The Department of History is one of 18 departments within the school.
