On December 1, 2022, Catholic University’s Department of History, together with the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the Black Student Alliance, and Professor Victoria Harms (Johns Hopkins University), hosted a panel discussion sponsored by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany on “The Beautiful Game? Soccer, the FIFA World Cup 2022, and Other Challenges to a Global Sport”, featuring Shary Reeves, former German professional and member of the U-19 national team, author, television celebrity, hip hop artist (and other amazing things!). Catholic University students and faculty discussed with Shary Reeves the ongoing problem of racism in soccer and society, and how experiences in Germany and the United States differ.
